Best time to visit Great Wall
To simplify things, here are some tips for a great Great Wall experience:
Avoid peak seasons like summer and winter. Summer brings crowds and heat, while winter can be bitterly cold. Opt for spring (April to May) or autumn (September to November) for more comfortable conditions.
Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather and fewer tourists. Plus, in spring, you might catch the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming around the Mutianyu section, adding an extra layer of beauty to your visit.
Plan ahead and choose a less crowded time to enjoy the wall at your own pace, with fewer people competing for views and photo opportunities.

What about the history of the Great Wall?
The Great Wall’s history spans almost as many provinces as its length – a staggering 17 out of China’s 30 plus provinces, principalities, and autonomous regions. Constructed by different states since the 7th century BC, it underwent significant development during the Qin, Han, and Ming dynasties.
Emperor Qin Shi Huang, who unified China during 220-206 BC, initiated the construction by joining existing walls and adding extensions. This marked the beginning of the Great Wall as we know it.
During the Han Dynasty, further reinforcement was undertaken, especially in the west, to protect the Silk Road and repel Mongol invaders.
The Ming Dynasty saw extensive additions and renovations, transforming the wall into the remarkable engineering marvel we see today, stretching across the country like a traditional Chinese dragon.
